Question

Which drink has the highest caffeine content - a cup of coffee or a can of cola?

Answer

Caffeine is a type of drug called a stimulant that is contained in tea, coffee and some fizzy drinks like Coke and Pepsi. Levels of caffeine are measured for each drink. 500mg a day is considered to be moderate use, 600-750mg a day would be high use and over 1,000mg a day is deemed a toxic amount.

It may surprise you that there is more caffeine in a cup of tea or coffee than a typical can of cola. Whatever your choice of drink, however, it is important to keep your caffeine intake to a minimum. By checking out product labelling, which provides nutritional information including the amount of caffeine in each serving, you should be able to stay within safe levels.

Also, don't forget that there are alternatives. Most brands of tea, coffee and cola also come in decaffeinated varieties.
