Dye-lemma
Question
Is it true that dying your hair can make it fall out? I dye mine every couple of months and even though I use specialist shampoos and conditioners I'm still worried.
Answer
There is some evidence to suggest that bleaching and relaxing products can damage the hair - in some cases this may lead to hair loss or thinning of the hair. But not all hair dyes contain such strong chemicals and should not worsen the problem of thinning hair or be a cause of hair falling out. Every individual is different and people's hair will react differently to different products.
You should be able to get further advice and guidance from your hairdresser. If you are planning to continue dying your hair every couple of months, they will be able to advise you on the best procedure for doing this. They will also be able to comment on the effectiveness of your specialist shampoo, conditioners and deep treatments.
There are many other factors that can cause hair loss in women. You will be able to get further guidance on this from your local doctor (GP).
