Self injury organisations and helplines
- National Self Harm Network (NSHN) - A survivor-led organisation committed to campaigning for the rights and understanding of people who self-injure. They can also put you in touch with experienced trainers with first-hand experience of self-injury.
- Bristol Crisis Service for Women (BCSW): A collectively run charity set up to respond to the needs of women in emotional distress. They have a particular focus on self injury and provide a national helpline for women in crisis.
Helpline: 0117 925 1119 (Fri and Sat 9pm - 12.30am & Sundays 6pm-9pm) - Samaritans - Offer a listening ear for anyone who is despairing via the phone (08457 909090) or email (jo@samaritans.org), as well as factsheets and useful links. They also have a report on self harm that is full of statistics and useful info.
- National Childrens Bureau - In depth information about self harm for young people.
- Siari - Self injury and related issues (SIARI) includes information, advice, message boards, a support group for helpers and an extensive, well-organised resources index.
For friends and relatives of self harmers
- Young Minds Parent's Information Service - A telephone service providing information and advice for anyone with concerns about the mental health of a child or young person. Young people can also phone for information on self-harm.
Helpline: 0800 018 2138 (Mon and Fri 10am - 1pm & Tues, Weds, Thurs 1pm - 4pm) - Siari tips for helpers and supporters of those who self harm in the form of quotes and a list of key points.
