Foreign phone

Question

My mobile phone was stolen just before I was due to fly back from holiday. I didn't have time to report it when I was abroad so what should I do now?

Answer

If you can you should contact the police in the country where the phone was stolen and then report the theft to your mobile company as soon as possible. If you can't do this in the country where it happened you should report the theft to the police and mobile company as soon as you get back to the UK.

It's important to contact the mobile company as soon as possible to avoid being charged for any calls made after the phone was stolen and before it's reported stolen. If you have a contract the company may insist on you continuing with the contract even though you do not have a phone.

If you have holiday insurance and/or household insurance you may be able to make a claim for a new phone and any illegal calls.
