Question

Will masturbating too much cause me any harm? I masturbate loads and my testes have started to hurt, so I'm really worried I've hurt myself. Have I done this to myself?

Answer

Masturbating can give you good feelings and can make you orgasm. It can also help you to get to know your own body. There are a lot of stories about things that happen to people who masturbate but they are not true, masturbation can cause no mental or physical harm. It's important not feel guilty or scared about masturbating. On the other hand, some people never feel the need to masturbate, this is completely normal too and it doesn't mean that they can't enjoy sex.

As you've been experiencing pain in your testes, it sounds like it could be a good idea for you to get yourself checked out by your local doctor (GP) to make sure everything is OK. Or, if you're under 25 you could go and see a doctor, in confidence, at your local Brook Centre.

If you want to discuss your situation further, you can call the Brook helpline on 0800 0185 023.
