Underground madness

A couple of months ago I had my 22 month-old nephew to stay for the weekend so we could introduce him and my sister to the delights of London. So take a couple in their late 20s, a young mum who's never been on the Tube, and a kid in a pramchair and we had some interesting times going up and down the millions of escalators and stairs.

The look of fright on my face as I did a fast wheel spin to get the chair facing backwards away from me as I dragged it onto a fast moving staircase, apparently still gets my sister in fits of giggles. The day was exhausting and my other half had to lift the pram up many a stair case, resulting in rather sore shoulders for days afterwards.

So when I got sent a rant about accessibility (or lack of it) for the disabled on The London Underground, I realised how lucky we were to actually be able to lift and drag this poor child around the Tube. At least we had the option, but for many people in wheelchairs, it's not so easy.

Sex toys, self-esteem and anal play

When we told you you could ask anything you like about sex, I couldn't have hoped for a better range of fascinating questions. I was particularly taken by Emily's thoughts on sex and self-esteem, but her answer to a question about what does it really feel like for a woman to have a penis inside her vagina was a cracker.

Britney Sheared

There's clearly a lot of complicated stuff going on inside that shaved bonce right now.

Mental health is often hard to 'see', especially when those experiencing emotional turmoil tend to deal with their feelings behind closed doors. Maybe that's why Britney's very public display of anguish is so disturbing. It's sad to watch the emotional car crash of a young woman whose image was once wholesome, glamorous and successful as she pukes on windscreens, faces accusations about being an irresponsible mum, flashes her vadge and whatnot.

I'm the same age as Britney (bar a couple of months), so it's weird to think that since Hit me baby one more time was released, I've been ambling along in such a comparatively non-descript world, going to the sixth form ball, getting a degree, having various crap boyfriends and pitiful student jobs... You know, nothing too out of the ordinary. Meanwhile, she's had her life continuously paparazzi-d and tabloid-ed. Nobody at work knows my most embarrassing moments (oh God, does this mean they're going to ask me now?), I've never married one of my backing dancers, and my tattoos and piercings have failed to spark much controversy (despite any of my best efforts).

While I can't even begin to imagine what she's going through, I do feel sorry for her and I hope she gets back on track soon.

Of less importance, but still worth noting, is whether the skinhead look suits her. Yes, I think so. Bit chilly this time of year, I imagine. She might need a hat. And a nice place in the middle of nowhere to get some peace in.

If you only had a tenner left what would you spend it on? For me it would probably be Oyster top-up, boring, but then at least I'd be able to get to work! Or I could cycle, but that sounds like far too much exercise first thing in the morning!

Recognising disablism

David has raised some very interesting and valid points regarding disablism following the recent row over racism and bullying in the Big Brother 7 house. Why aren't disabled people given the chance to appear on TV in normal roles, instead of as token characters, and was Pete's apprearance on Celebrity Big Brother a good enough representation of disabled people?
